Do you have an unusual swelling in the hands or the legs? This can be because of an abnormal accumulation of protein and water molecules in the tissue. Visit me at Eunique Massage & Fitness in Calgary for Manual Lymphatic Drainage to reduce the swelling. Complete Decongestive Therapy is also provided for lymphedema and lipedema. Manual lymphatic drainage is one of the methods used to re-route the lymph flow to include the excess protein and water molecules into more healthy lymph vessels.
The benefits are numerous and they include:
What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?
It is an advanced massage technique that moves the skin over the underlying tissues using repetitive and circular movements. This method was discovered and developed by Dr. Emil and Estrid Vodder in the 1920s and 1930s. An MLD therapist stimulates the minute musculature of the lymph vessel walls and uses the lymph system to cleanse the body, thereby reducing the swelling and strengthening the immune system. MLD has become one of the most effective treatments for any trauma, however, caused.
Role of MLD in the Treatment of Lymphedema and Lipedema
MLD stimulates healthy lymph vessels and the lymph nodes that are located adjacent to the area of non-functioning or blocked lymphatic drainage. It re-routes the lymph flow around these blocked areas into more centrally located healthy lymph vessels and nodes. The resulting increase in the lymphatic activity in the healthy areas creates a “suction effect” that stimulates the accumulated fluid present in lymphedema to move into an area with normal lymphatic drainage.
Role of MLD in the Treatment of Fibromyalgia
The gentle, soothing treatment of MLD has yielded positive results in pain relief, sleep and general health. It is easily tolerated by those diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.
Eunice also specializes in providing Eunique Alignment Therapy that includes various methods that have been learned over 3 decades to improve posture and decrease pain.
Manual Lymph Drainage/Complete Decongestive Therapy
The lymphatic system has a vital role in the body by regulating the immune system and removing toxins and excess fluids from the body. Manual lymphatic drainage is also a very effective way of detoxing the body plus stimulating vital immune defenses. This is a gentle, powerful, deep cleansing treatment.
I’m one of a dozen therapists fully trained in the Vodder method and I’m certified to treat complex lymphatic conditions. Manual Lymphatic Drainage benefits are numerous and include:

Highly Skilled, Up To Date
“I have attended Eunice for MLD treatments for over a year and continue under her care. I am not a local, and although a Canadian citizen, I now live in New Zealand, but, as my daughter lives in Calgary, I visit frequently.
I knew nothing of any of the MLD Therapists registered in Calgary, and chose Eunice by chance and geography. Hers was the closest office to my daughter's home. As it turned out, I could not have found a better therapist for my lymphedema. Eunice is a lovely person. She is quietly spoken, calm and mature. She is highly skilled, up to date with modern lymphedema treatments, and is a careful, safe and diligent therapist.
I have learned much from Eunice on how to manage my lymphedema; her treatments have led to a significant and sustained improvement in not just my lymphedema, but in my mental attitude towards it.
While lymphedema is a chronic, incurable condition, I now feel that I am not alone in dealing with it. Eunice shows a genuine sense of caring and concern. I now have the feeling that there is someone else walking beside me, who understands the daily frustrations and challenge that we with lymphedema face.
I am a family doctor with forty years of experience. I rarely provide public endorsements, but in this instance it is an absolute pleasure to do so. I unreservedly recommend Eunice's professional services to anyone with a chronic soft tissue condition, and particularly for those with primary or secondary lymphedema.”
